Lors online :: Another collaboration SJWDesign and Webuild

SJWDesign were commissioned to draw up the a wireframe for the design of lorsonline.com, the website for Richard Stevens Law Offices.  This type of collaboration between the 2 agencies is ideal for clients looking for a specific design style which could not be achieved in house.

By drafting in SJWDesign, Webuild were able to focus on building the structure of the site and data organisation.  Once the designs had been signed off our wireframes were supplied in photoshop format so the in-house designer could move forward without further revisions, thus keeping costs to an absolute minimum for the client.

We are very proud of our association with Webuild, Covent Garden and are very pleased to see this website go live this month.

Thinglink + Wp-ecommerce + WordPress = Nifty Online store solution

Client, Stripe Design Group, needed an on-line presence to compliment their bricks and  mortar store in Downtown Santa Cruz.  The shopping experience was of utmost importance to owner Suna Lock and this had in, in the past, held the brand back from going on-line. “I can’t put my product on isolated white backgrounds and expect the customer to engage with the brand, its too clinical and far removed from the actual store shopping experience.”

By cleverly adding a thinglink layer to the on-line store, the eclectic experience of found, precious and new products are displayed in visual merchandised settings akin to the store itself. This layer adds real brand value to the store and is easy and inspiring to use. Three clicks rule in place the online shopping experience is still sharp, slick whilst adding visual and brand interest.

We invested in the Gold cart add on from WP Ecommerce, at $40 adding most payment gateways and additional product images.  Its the only spend the client needed on software, the rest of the budget was allocated to web development of both WP templates and the Services section of the site.

The estore goes live at the end of march, with the interior and branding services shortly after. Watch this space www.stripedesigngroup.com

WordPress SSl & Thinglink plugin by RJW.

Stripe Design Group are going through a radical overhaul of their on-line presence.  This includes a major step forward for the brand – their first on-line shopping store.  We achieved this by adding a new bolt on section to the domain in the form of WordPress running WP-Ecommerce.  One of the “layers” of the store was to add a thinglink map to visual backdrops acting as Window dressings and inspiration pages.

The problem: Internet Explorer and SSL and thinglink. “this page contains secure and unsecure items”.

The solution: having checked thoroughly for many hours all the links to images within the checkout page. I turned to the plug-ins within the CMS, it became apparent that the thinglink plug in was the root cause of the error.  This was becasue it was calling the following code called from the plug-in:-

<!-- Thinglink: Code added by the RJW | Thinglink plugin -->
				<script type="text/javascript">
				   __tlid = '83677688983715841';
				</script>
				<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.thinglink.com/jse/embed.js"></script>

Clearly the js code is coming from an non http source. by changing the http to https the code is fixed and no more errors in IE.

Firefox did show a broken padlock. in IE the pages did display properly even if "no don't show items" was selected on the dialog.

I love my job – A gorgeous photoshoot for an Advert for January 2011

this was a real treat for a girly girl with the camera – client needed a shot of toddler in tutu for a new toddler ballet class starting in January 2011.

We enlisted the help of the gorgeous Tallulah who posed beautifully in  her tutu getting ready for class.

Its a joy to shoot, high ISO and medium shutter so we get a nice crisp shot but soft movement and with all the warmth of the low lighting grain.  A bit of saturation tweaking creativity in photoshop and job done.

Lovely!

It was a quick jump over to http://www.burstofbeaden.com/ see Jon Klassen’s extraordinary portfolio of work.  There isn’t an image on his site I wouldn’t love forever on my wall.

Quote from The Times on pickledgreen 7.02.10

“Pickledgreen is one of those curious modern places that’s always talking at you, tugging your sleeve, offering a nugget of fortune-cookie wisdom or a helpful factoid.

The restaurant — opened last December on the pedestrianised nervous breakdown that is Edinburgh’s Rose Street — has a Twitter account, obviously, a blog and a website, one that’s an electronic corkboard of handy hints and cheerful salutations. Cumulatively it’s a bit like having lunch inside Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall….”

I think I can handle the association!

Popgirl World :: an interesting design exercise

We were asked to produce a possible design for Popgirl world, it was a challenging brief but we delivered a design we’re proud of, this one didn’t quite hit the mark for the client.   We don’t often do on-spec work, but this one was a lot of fun to have a go with. The demographic is 6 – 10 years and they want to grow the site to be aspirational for their audience.  Our design was felt to be too girly as they are trying to target a more neutral audience, so I’m really curious what they decide to come up with in the end.
