have you had an email like this from eworld.hk or eworldnr.hk ? It’s nonsense.

Dear CEO & Principal

We are a domain name registration and dispute organization in Asia, which mainly deal with the global companies’ domain name registration and internet Intellectual property right protection in Asia. Currently, we have a pretty important issue needing to confirm with your company.

On Oct.7, 2009, we received an application formally. One company named “ATU Holdings Ltd” wanted to applied for the internet keyword “************” and some domain names through our body.

Now we are handling with the registration of these domain names and find that the keyword of these domain names and internet keyword is identical with your company’s. So we have to confirm with you at two points:

1. If your company consign ATU Holdings to register these domain names and internet keyword, we will send application form to them and help them finish the registration at once.

2. If your company have nothing to do with ATU Holdings, they maybe have other purposes to register these domain names and internet keyword.

In order to deal with this issue better, please contact us by email or telephone ASAP.

Best Regards,

Robert Lau

Seriously inspiring illustration

From time to time on travels around the internet you come across some really memorable and inspiring sites, this is just one of those examples:

Kev Adamson

http://www.kevadamson.com/

I usually bookmark these sites so I can go back a little later with a cup of tea and digest a bit more, but this one I  felt would be great to share.  This type of illustration is outside our skill-set and it gets you all fired-up “I’d like to be a less corporate and more grungy design agency”.  As jealous as I am about Kevs work here, because lets face it it is gorgeous, I think the bigger compliment is the slick integration of great illustration with a really functional and yet totally engaging website.

Love it.

Adobe Type Manager Light 4.1: invalid font problem, XP SP3

I have been having trouble getting Adobe Type Manager light 4.1 to install new fonts. Running Xp and having installed Service Pack 3 I though this might be the usual Microsoft compatitblility rubbish, but I was wrong.

I uninstalled ATM, removed all traces on PFM, & PFB fonts.
Cleaned up my fonts directory. restarted.
Reinstalled ATM restarted.
Tried to reinstall, same problem.

ON the brink of uninstalling SP3 and reinstalling XP I googled the problem and after a couple of hours I came across a forum when some one had expereinced the same problem. It is due to incompatitbility with some Graphics drivers.

I have two graphics cards NVdia 6600 GT and 6600 running 2 monitors on my system. I recently (august 2008) upgraded to the newest version of the drivers – this was my problem. Having mucked about with various acceleration tweaks on the nvidia control panel without success I looked to uninstall the driver completely. Under my add remove programs I realised there are two components to the Nvidia drivers, the standard control panel and also the “enhanced acceleration drivers”. Uninstalling the latter has completely resolved the problem.

Ok so to just recap!

If your Adobe type manager 4.1 has recently thrown up a bunch of errors “invalid font file” cannot continue etc when uninstalling, viewing or installing fonts when you absolutely KNOW that your files are not invalid or corrupted you have a graphics card incompatibility issue with the software.

Let me know if this has been useful!

Outlook Email messages downloading but disappearing ? not using exchange. this is outlook 2007 problem

Outlook Email messages downloading but disappearing ?  not using exchange.  this is outlook 2007 problem.

I have lost  2 days of email, I see them downloading, but they do not appear in INbox as unread.  I have been going spare wondering whats wrong.  lets be clear.

1.  i did not have exchange server email.  I have three pop accounts.

2. all three email accounts email was disappearing.

3.  i had no daft rules running.

4. i had no daft views in outlook.

I simply stopped being able to see any new emails.  this is attributed (after much hair pulling and flight confirmation emails gone astray!) to the size of my newly imported .pst file having reinstalled XP.  Im a lazy whatsit and hadn’t bothered archiving or cleaning out emails for a couple of years, in business this is useful as you can refer back to previous sent and received correspondence.

Herein lies the message.  my .PST file had reached 1gb in size.  Outlook no longer wanted to read any more emails.  heres what i did:
1. made a new .pst file.  transferred (yes it took ages) the relevant emails that i need ongoing.

2. made a double checking large backup of the old .pst file

3. copied all traceable email msgs to a straightforward windows directories under each client so i can search if necessary in the future.

4. made my new .pst file the default and removed the old 1gb size of file from the outlook profile.

Job done.  email is all downloading and im a happy bunny.

laziness my firend was the cause, and of course the usual oversight of Microsoft that anyone in the design and photography industry could ever need to get close to 1gb .pst file.

Again – get in touch please if this helped you!

Sashbox Hosting – Review of Zencart and web hosting services

I hope anyone looking for hosting services related to www.sashbox.com will find this post first and read this review. I have used Sashbox hosting for 3 years, both personally and for clients. In January 2008 i recommended a new client to the hosting package. They signed up and paid the fee. nothing happened. 4 support calls later, messages left, no answer, no returned calls, 3 support emails later, no reply. The client contacted their credit card and reported Sashbox.

I have now moved all my clients away from sashbox. this is an absolutely appaling example of lack of care and lack of customer support.

My hosting was due for renewal and as expected the automated email arrived. I responded that I did not wish for the hosting to be renewed onced it had expired 5 days later. 4 hours later my email and web services were switched off. I was livid. 5 days later an unauthorised payment was taken from my credit card.

Please let this be a warning, do not use Sashbox for hosting.
